There are thousands of various jewelry designs in the world, which vary between earrings, necklaces, bracelets, or rings. Rings designing are considered to be the most popular among all designs, as it comes first in jewelry designs due to the aesthetic or sentimental value it adds.
In this article, we will take you on a ride behind the scenes of the world of rings designing to get to know the process of ring manufacturing, in addition to knowing how it is possible to modify it after it is finished:
The steps for designing rings:
- First, The idea of designing rings is usually drawn on paper and then applied to a computer-aided design program, such as MatrixGold, to digitally repaint and add all the details to the digital model. Then the model goes through multiple checks to ensure the highest levels of aesthetics and production standards are achieved. (You can get all the information about the program by reading the MatrixGold article)
- Second: Once the model is approved technically and aesthetically, the design pattern is printed using 3D printers to produce the first wax model for the ring.
- Third: The previously prepared wax pattern moves to the “casting stage” (you can return to the article on gold casting ) resulting in an exact replica of the wax that the designer uses to create the desired ring.
Widening or Minimizing a ring:
One of the most important ring design techniques that every jewelry designer must know is the ability to adjust the ring measurements to fit each customer’s finger sizes.
How to minimize a ring?
To reduce the size of the ring, we cut a part of the loop, reshape it into a circle, then reassemble the two ends of the loop together, and clean and polish it again.
Don’t worry: once the process is finished, there will be no sign that the ring had been cut before. It will look exactly the same, but it will fit more comfortably.
How to enlarge a ring?
The process of enlarging a ring is more difficult than reducing it, and there are two ways to enlarge according to the required enlargement size:
- Enlarging by extending the ring’s metal, this can only be done at up to half the original size
- Adding a new piece of metal: where we have to cut the ring and add the piece to it, then reshape, weld and polish it, as is the case in minimizing the ring.
The difficulty of enlarging the rings is if there are stones on either side of the ring, as we have to rearrange and shape them.
